England stars on their way to Devon

Current England vice captain Jenny Gunn (pictured left) along with fellow international Danni Wyatt (pictured below) will be on show in North Devon this coming weekend as Devon entertain Nottinghamshire in a 50 over match on Saturday 13th April at North Devon CC followed by a T20 clash the following day at Bideford CC. Devon have former international,, World Cup and Ashes winner Rosalie Birch along with England Academy player Amara Carr on show in addition to North Devon's own emerging player Alli Kelly and fellow North girl Emily Ward. The fixtures continue the pre-season preparation of the side as they look to go one better than 2012 and gain a place in the end of season play offs. Devon will be without the injured duo of skipper Jodie Dibble and left arm spinner Hazelle Garton and are awaiting the arrival of Australian Capital Territories player Phillipa Taylor who will hopefully be in the county for the fixtures against West Devon Under 14 Boys.

Devon will go into the game on the back of a decent performance against south west neighbours Gloucestershire on Sunday 07th April at the University ground, Topsham. Asked to bat first their total of 225-7 was built on the back of two half century stands. Amara Carr (38) and Aylish Cranstone (36) added 79 for the first wicket whilst Cait O'Keefe (53no) and Claire Varcoe (22) added 83 for the 6th wicket, whilst there was a welcome return to the side for Vicky Bowden coming back slowly from a long term absence.

Apart from a half century stand between Alex MacDonald and youngster Eve Alder, Gloucestershire never really got to grips with the Devon bowling. Rebecca Donohue, daughter of Keith, was as economical as ever taking 1-5 from her 7 overs bowled. Emily Ward continues to grow into her role as an opening bowler at senior level as she clean bowled one of the openers without scoring and followed that up by bowling skipper Charlotte Walker soon after. Pick of the bowling however would have to be Charlotte Phillips on debut as the emerging off spinner claimed 4-22 from 9 overs as she exerted a fair bit of turn on what was an impressive first bowl for Devon, She plays her club cricket at Plympton and has moved across to devon this season from Cornwall.

Matches get underway at 1100 on Saturday and 1200 on Sunday. Supporters are more than welcome in what promises to be a tough weekend for the Devon girls against their Division 1 counterparts.
